Our initial contact with Thailand mission began in the late 1980s when we were introduced by Rev Bob Phee to a ministry in Chiang Mai (now Shiloh B-P Church under the care of Rev & Mrs. Zhou Zhen Chang). Since then, we joined Sembawang B-P Church for mission trips and conferences and got to know Rev & Mrs. Yang Cong Dao and through them we were introduced to Ev. He De Ern & family and also Ev. Lee Tian Shou & family, later to Ev. Yan Xiang You & family.
Missionaries that we are supporting in Thailand
Together with Sembawang & Moriah B-P Churches, our Church is supporting four missionary families ministering in Northern Thailand. Below is a brief introduction to their ministries:
Ev. Yan Xiang You & family
The Yans have begun their ministry in Mea Chan (a town between Chiang Rai and Golden Triangle) about seven years ago. Their vision was to minister to the Chinese speaking community and tribal people. Besides the regular Sunday service and family meetings, they are running a Chinese School (like tuition class). The prospect of the church is to erect a Church building of their own over the land that they had purchased.
Ev. Lee Tian Shou & Family
The Lees are serving in Takuti, a Yunanese dominating town in the eastern part of Chiang Dao district. This Church is founded by the late Rev Yang Cong Dao and his wife. The Lord has blessed and multiplied the ministry there that it has grown from a few families now to a sizable congregation with an orphanage cum student care ministry (Grace Home), and a Chinese school with almost two hundred students.
Ev. He De Ern & family
The Hes are serving in Maung Na village also situated in the eastern part of Chiang Dao district. Besides the Church ministry, Ev He is also actively involved in the Chinese School by teaching and acting as a counsellor of the school. They have also launched a Lahu ministry some years among the Lahu community; as a result, some young people have dedicated their lives for Theological training preparing them for full-time ministry.
Mrs. Yang & Yang Sheng Rong
Mrs. Yang who is semi-retired now helping up visitation and the orphanage of Takuti Church. As for Yang Sheng Rong (the son of Rev & Mrs Yang) he is presently studying in a Theological College in Bangkok. He is now in his second year of studies, preparing himself after his parents' foot step for the gospel ministry.
Our Mission Commitments for Thailand
The first commitment that you and I can make is to pray for the missionaries and their ministries in Thailand. Prayer is required for these servants of the Lord who are serving in the mission frontier. May I urge you to remember our missionaries daily in your prayer.
The second commitment that we can make is to give Financial Support to them so that they can continue their ministries. Our Church has committed a regular support of SGD$700 (monthly) for Thailand Mission. Together with the support from Sembawang & Moriah B-P Churches, the money is dispatched to these four families.
The third commitment that we can make is to encourage our missionaries is by visiting them or writing to them (now even with emails and sms). We will continue to organize mission trip and conference, giving practical help in their ministry. We can also render our help by giving them the necessary help through gifts and other forms of support.
Our Mission Endeavour
Fulfilling the Great Commission of Christ
Our Mission Endeavour is none other than fulfilling the Great Commission of Christ stated in Matthew 28:18-20: "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen".
Having a Global Vision
The gospel is needed is not just in Malaysia or Thailand or a certain part of the world. The need is global so our vision for mission must also be global. We must heed the call of God wherever He sends us. We therefore do not restrict ourselves because of our limited strength but relying on the strength of Christ who promised: "lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen".
Performing a Local Action
The performing of missions has to begin with home. We should continue our gospel effort locally while we are seeking to reach out to other places. It is true that if we cannot love those whom we see, how can love those that we cannot see. We must double our effort to reach out to our loved ones and neighbours. However, we must remember we own a gospel debt to people a far off. Though not all of us could travel to other places to preach or to teach, we could commit ourselves to pray and to give. So, let us be active in our gospel effort, be it local or global.
The fulfilling of the Great Commission is many folds which include evangelizing, preaching, teaching & training. Hence, the supporting of local pastors and evangelists, overseas missionaries and mission projects, even making of mission trips is deemed necessary for the extension of God's Kingdom. So, let us be ready to do and to go whenever and wherever the Lord calls. Amen.
Affectionately,
Pastor David Wong
