The first school that I attended for my pre-primary education was the kindergarten started by our Church. Mrs. Wong was my teacher. She taught us a lot of Christian songs and Bible stories. She also invited us to attend the Children Bible Class. We love to attend the Bible Class because we can play with many friends and have fun, and we always look forward to receive sweets and tidbits to bring home. Since the Church was near my home and I always like to go there. The most enjoyable thing that we like to do is helping to wash the floor (after the meeting), so that we can play with water. All my brothers and sister attended the same kindergarten.
My sister and myself used to attend a Buddhist Association at Lorong 5, Kulai Besar. However, after an accident that happened, we stopped going there. Gradually, the three of us… my sister, my mischievous elder brother and myself became the regular students of the Bible Class. Thanks to God! We had many teachers who came to teach us how to pray, to lead in singing and to read the Bible & etc. Both Pr. Chai & sister Yang also helped me and encouraged me. I used to participate in drama acting and presenting of songs. However, I wasn't sure about my faith and my salvation in the Lord.
As I grew up, I started to join the Youth Fellowship. As I grew older, I begin to help Mrs. Wong to teach the Bible Class. In the Youth Fellowship, my Bible knowledge increased, and I also learned to serve the Lord with other brothers and sisters in the Youth Fellowship. I am also thankful to God that at a certain time a Mrs Ling was sent to help the Youth Fellowship. I remember whenever we encountered with problems she would always counsel us with God's Word – the Bible, to comfort and to encourage us.
I want to thank God for always watching over me and keeping me! Whenever I needed comfort and encouragement, He would always help me through His servants. It was during the first Bible camp I attended that I committed my life to God by accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour. My heart was bursting with joy and with the peace that transcends my understanding. I cried at that time : "I want be born again and be saved, I don't want to go to hell, I want to go to heaven!"
After accepting Christ, I continued to attend Sunday Service, Youth Fellowship and helped in the Bible Class. Though sometimes I face parental objection, the moment I stepped into the Church, I experienced the presence of God's peace, nothing in the world would beset me. I always remember a promise from the Lord Jesus: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28). To become a Christian may be easy, but to bear good testimony for the Lord is never easy.
In 2004, I faced a persecution… this happened when my grandma passed away and my mother called me home asking me and my elder brother to attend the funeral. She had specially instructed both of us to carry joss sticks as offering to the dead, or else we will not be permitted to enter the house. There was a great struggle in my heart and I was in total loss. However, I remembered the Word of the Lord which reminded me that those who follow Christ would face persecution, so at once I went into the room, knelt down and prayed. Praise the Lord! Although I was persecuted but God helped me to overcome the test and He enabled me to stand firm for Him. Because of that, my Dad was furious and stopped my two youngest brothers from attending Church.
Lord, I want to thank you for helping me to overcome in every trying moment. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to sustain me and help me to understand Your Word, and always be by my side to help and to assist me.
Sister Lim Ai Tyan, Jul 2007.
