During our transit in Doha airport to Amman, we met numerous mainland Chinese who were going to work in Jordan. According to them, they have been travelling for 4 days and 4 nights via all kinds of transportation from sea, land and air before they finally reached Amman. Indeed, all of them looked very exhausted and helpless due to their language barrier. One of them said humorously, "we don't know what is going on, even if we might have been sold away by someone!" The moment they arrived of Queen Alia international airport in Amman, they started to panic, not knowing how to go through the custom and were worried about whether anybody would be coming to fetch them. We comforted them and told them everything would be alright as long as they stick together as a group. True indeed, there was a man who finally came to receive this group of ladies.
I felt very sorry for these ladies coming all the way from China to work in a strange land such as Jordan just to earn more money. Nevertheless, we thank God that He loves these Chinese and through some believers who have shared the gospel among them, many of them are able to receive Christ after hearing the Gospel.
We are even more thankful to God for sending forth Preacher and Mrs Chee to Jordan to shepherd these believers. They are like their spiritual parents, taking care of their spiritual needs and teaching them to serve God.
We were warmly received by the Chees and their kind hospitality, such as giving us a treat with a few courses of delicious Arabic food. They also gave us detailed and precise instructions for the duties and the various meetings to be conducted during their absence, so that we were not confused and left without a clue.
Though we were here for about two weeks only, the kind believers have showered their love by buying all kinds of fruits, drinks and food for us, we were really touched by their love. May the Lord bless them in return for their kindness. Another thing which we are grateful to God was that more than 20 persons have come to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour on the last two Fridays, i.e 31 Aug and 7 Sep respectively. May the Lord watch over these young believers, that they will follow, love and serve God till they meet Him face to face. All glory be unto God our Father!
An unexpected thing happened on 7 Sep at 4 am in the morning when Rev Wong intended to go to the washroom, he found that the door handle of our room could not be opened. I started to panic because we would have to leave at 6am for the Karak meeting. At that point, even if we were to call for help, no one could enter the house as the main door was latched. There were no tools in our room that could be used to force open the door, at our wits end, Rev Wong had no choice but to break one glass pane on the door. After doing that, he stretched out his hand to open the handle outside the door. Thank God, it opened!
Finally we were able to leave Irbid and arrived at Karak on time for the meeting without any obstacles. Praise be unto our Gracious God who is so good to us.
In addition, we have visited some of the tourist attractions recorded in the Bible. It is indeed better to see with your own eyes rather than reading from books. Thank God for enabling Preacher Maher to accompany us for the sight-seeing.
On 3 Sep Preacher Maher and a sister from Iraq (also the superintendent of the children Sundays school in Irbid Baptist church) brought us to an ancient city known as Gadara. It is the place where our Lord Jesus set free a person who was demon-possessed by casting out the demons (Matt 8:28-34). From the ruins of the building we can see that it has been a prosperous town in the past, but now it has become a place for visitors and archaeologists. In the afternoon, Preacher Maher invited us for an authentic "Arabic home-cooked food" in his house.
Preacher Maher also brought us to visit Jerash, another old city on 10 Sep. The area of this city seems bigger than the holy city of Jerusalem. It consists of square, theatre, streets and temples, great pillars and stone-paved path ways can be seen everywhere too. We were amazed by the craftwork of the structures and it looked gorgeous. However, this place has experienced an earthquake in the old times and presently it lies in ruins as time passes. The great time is now gone, everything here has changed, however, we thank God that our Lord remains unchanged and He is the same forever.
The Lord has also provided us with a good and responsible driver whom we are thankful for. There are about 5 to 6 times a week that we need him to fetch us to various destinations and he has never failed to turn up. At times we have confused the meeting time or changing of timing, he would respond immediately and bring us to the location on time.
Another thing that warmed my heart was that even the believers who worked overtime till late hours always came to attend the hostel meeting joyfully in order to listen to God's word. Such eagerness and hunger for the word of God really touched me greatly. They really sacrificed their rest and sleeping time so that they could come close to God. Therefore I believe God will surely bless these brethren and may the Lord preserve them to hold on to their faith, as well as being a light and salt for the Lord till they meet Him. All glory be unto God. Amen!
May the Lord continue to bless Jordan as he adds to His church daily those that should be saved.
Mrs. Wong,
