"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you." (Phil 4:6-9)
As we look back the year 2007, we have much to give thanks to the Lord! We thank God for His protection and provision. Thank God for His guidance and goodness. Thank God for healing us, helping us and answering our prayers. The list can go on… but most important of all, we thank God for having given us His Son Jesus Christ – our Saviour and Lord.
Though we have come to the close of the year, let us resolve to continue to abide in Christ. For this is the secret of having an intimate relationship with Christ which will result in fruit bearing. Let us be reminded: "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you" (John 15:7). At the same time, let us commit our ways and our future by prayer, supplication with thanksgiving making known all our requests to God.
Church Election
As announced earlier, we are going to have our Election of New Committee Members (2008-2011). We would like to urge you to pray for the candidates to be elected for office. We truly appreciate those who have been serving faithfully and tirelessly in our midst. God will surely remember every labour of love for Him and will reward accordingly.
Dearly beloved, if you are approached to be elected, please pray and consider and do come forth and serve the Lord. There is indeed great joy in serving Jesus. The closing date for the nomination is set on 2/1/08 (Wednesday), which means we do not have much time left. Please do respond promptly and hand back the nomination form to the Church Secretary or the office.
Towards Christian Maturity
"Towards Christian Maturity" has been chosen as the Church Theme for 2008. We would like to encourage every worshipper in our Church to grow spiritually through Bible reading and prayer. It is the Lord's desire as well as our desire to see God's children growing mature in our faith. This aim of growing mature in Christian life is a continuation of staying intimate with Christ. We hope those who have not finished reading through the Bible will continue your reading in 2008. If you have finished reading, why not do it for another round?
We will continue with the Scripture memory programme in 2008. We would be using the Scripture Memory Booklet printed by Life B-P Church. Below is an extract from Rev Charles Seet:
For the past few years, Life B-P Church has been implementing a church scripture memory programme. Many Lifers have found this programme to be quite beneficial to them.
The theme for our Scripture Memory verse programme for 2008 is "The Growing Christian." When a sinner turns to Christ for salvation he has become a new born babe who needs to grow into full spiritual maturity. Such growth will be manifested in at least four areas: Witness for Christ, Obedience to God's will, Personal holiness, and the Knowledge of God.
"One means of grace that God has given to facilitate growth is His Word. Dallas Willard, professor of Philosophy at the University of Southern California, wrote, "Bible memorization is absolutely fundamental to spiritual formation. If I had to choose between all the disciplines of the spiritual life, I would choose Bible memorization, because it is a fundamental way of filling our minds with what it needs. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth. That's where you need it! How does it get in your mouth? Memorization."
Dearly beloved, as we round up the year with thanksgiving and praise, may we remember to continue to do all the things that the Lord has commanded us to do. Finally, "Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality." (Romans 12:9-13)
Affectionately,
Pastor David Wong
Year-End Spiritual Audit of Our Lives
Year-end is a time for contemplation and reflection. Below are some questions for our personal inspection of ourselves that we be right with God as we end the year:-
1.
Is there any regret or failure in Christian service and devotion during the year that we need to deal with?
2.
Have I neglected my duty, personal devotion and prayer in the morning / evening?
3.
Do I need to relook at my priorities in the light of eternity?
4.
Have I disobeyed God willingly and have not repented of it yet?
5.
Did I grow in the knowledge and application of the Word this year?
6.
Is my life choked with the cares of the world and the work, studies and leisure only?
7.
Did I pray to seek the will of God in making major decisions of my life?
8.
Do I remember to honour God with my time, treasure (in giving) and talents (in service) as well?
9.
Have I been coming to Sunday School, Sabbath worship every Sunday, NBC or fellowships, and truly adored and served Him with love and zeal?
10.
Have I neglected the health of my soul in prayer, devotion, service and Christian fellowship?
11.
Do I care enough to visit or call to comfort, encourage and exhort someone in the Lord?
12.
Do I show genuine love to my spouse, children, church members and friends, and parents and grandparents as well?
13.
Have I been careless with my speech and offended someone or have sinned against the Lord either wilfully or inadvertently?
14.
Is my mind often filled with worldly or edifying thoughts of God or His Word?
15.
Which facet of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22, 23 that I am lacking most?
16.
Do I remember to pray for our pastoral staff, session and missionaries in India?
17.
Do I live to prepare myself for eternity's sake or just the temporal?
18.
Am I prepared to die now and to appear in the great judgment before God if it is God's will?
19.
Am I holy and live a life that is godly and love and fear and serve God this year?
20.
Have I violated the clear illumination and conviction of one's conscience, knowing that God explicitly forbids this sin in his Word?
21.
Have I fail in my intentions, promises, vows, and solemn agreements that I made with God or others?
22.
Have I consciously examine my heart if I have offended God in words, deeds or thoughts?
